Addressing the complex business challenges created by the COVID-19 crisis requires companies to navigate the evolving regulations and guidance promulgated across the federal, state, and local levels. On July 8, 2020, Susanne von Türk, a member of the Board of Directors of the German-American Chamber of Commerce, participated in a virtual program that addressed those issues, including potential legal liability and how to manage risks.

The slowdown in physical expansion by European companies into the United States owing to COVID-19 has increased interest in agency arrangements as a way to enter the U.S. market or expand an existing presence. On July 8, 2020, Eric Kuhn, who regularly advises Italian and other European companies on their U.S. activities, participated in an Italian-language virtual roundtable on international agency agreements organized by the Treviso-Belluno Chamber of Commerce.

In their second virtual trial scheduled for this summer, Becker Glynn’s trial lawyers will appear in New York Supreme Court to press the claims of a Brazilian telecommunications company against an investor who failed to make a $7 million payment for shares of the company.

Becker Glynn’s litigators are scheduled to start a three week virtual trial in federal district court in Boston in July.  In one of the earliest federal trials of its kind, counsel will appear remotely using the Zoom platform hosted by the district court.  Witnesses will be questioned and exhibits introduced though the remote platform.

With many in Europe watching the New York trial of Harvey Weinstein, ARD German Radio & TV, the largest public broadcasting network in Europe, reached out to Zeb Landsman for some insight about juries.  Over the course of the interview, Mr. Landsman provided the German audience with information about the U.S. jury system and the process of jury deliberations under U.S. law.

Susanne von Türk co-authored the annual report on the US labor market and employment law, entitled “Lohn-und-Lohnnebenkosten - USA.”  The report is published by Germany Trade & Invest  (generally known as GTAI),  the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany.

On October 16, 2019, Zeb Landsman will moderate a panel focused on “What Keeps In-House Lawyers up at Night” with in-house lawyers from Molson Coors, Duke Energy Corp., Ernst & Young LLP, and Holcim (US) Inc. The panel is part of Northwestern Law School’s prestigious Contemporary Issues in Complex Litigation.

Becker Glynn hosted a breakfast briefing organized by the American Council on Germany with the Mayor of the City of Dortmund, Ullrich Sierau. The Mayor spoke on the topic of “Structural Change and Rising Populism: How Cities Manage These Trends.”

The Firm serves as litigation counsel to AcBel Polytech, Inc., a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer, in its federal lawsuit against Fairchild Semiconductor Corp.  The case involves allegedly defective voltage regulators sold to AcBel by Fairchild’s Asian subsidiaries.

The Firm served as international transaction counsel to International Finance Corporation (IFC) in connection with a loan for up to $450 million to Telecom Argentina, one of the leading telecommunications companies in Argentina.

The Firm served as counsel to LimaCorporate SpA, a leading manufacturer of orthopedic implants, in the Lima group’s establishment of a 3D printing manufacturing facility on the campus of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York.

Produbanco is the 3rd largest player in Ecuador’s banking sector, and a member of the Promerica banking group (based in Panama and present in 9 Latin American countries).

Patrick O’Brien and Andres Sardi Garcia represented International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest) in connection with a $100 million secured credit facility to San Miguel, the largest citrus exporter in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the most important fruit exporters of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Firm represented the Dutch Royal FrieslandCampina N.V., one of the world’s largest dairy companies, in connection with its acquisition of Jana Foods, LLC and its affiliates.

The Firm served as counsel to LimaCorporate SpA, a leading manufacturer of orthopaedic implants, in its recent strategic milestone-based acquisition of Tennessee-based TechMah Medical LLC, a medical device software company. The transaction closed on September 5, 2018.
